What is what?

I wanted to address this issue here because it is a very profound issue that the human kind is in turmoil with. What is what? Before we go into the topic in detail, shall we discuss something else too?

When we see a person, a place or a thing, we always have some opinion in our mind, right? Something like.. How beautiful is this flower.. or how ugly is this person! OR how gross is this thing! According to our trail of thoughts in our secretive minds, our facial reactions change from yewww to wow or vice versa. (Mind you! It is no more a secret!)

Now let me get on to the fundamental issue I was supposed to address. I shall start this with a question. What is beautiful and what is ugly or gross according to you? Does it determine anything true or is it false?

What is pleasant or unpleasant according to you? Why does it determine your postive or negative behaviour towards that thing/person/place? Is there a rule book where people who are dark/ stout/ bald/ old/ very thin or however you percieve ugliness to be are supposed to be called/treated as ugly? Or are the people who are slender/ fair-complexioned/ young/ attractive or however you percieve beauty to be are supposed to be called as beautiful and treated accordingly?

I am sure there is no rule book as such and all these factors are based on man's mind and his perceptions on things. Then why should man treat his kin according to the complexion of their skin/ their facial features or their body shape or even the size of their wallet?

Do give it a thought, guys! In this world, who is ugly and who is beautiful? Who is gross or who is attractive? When there is nothing implied or stated in any kind of rule book either constitutional or spiritual, why do we treat others according to the conditioning of our minds?

  1. I feel we can't judge people just by their looks. Beauty must be in the heart and not just in face. It is common that everyone start judging at first looks, but when we get along with people we slowly get to know their inner beauty.

  2. Good questions . Beauty doesn't necessarily implies their facial beauty. Beauty is based on their character and their behaviour. We can just get ATTRACTED to the facial beauty, but we will ADORE & ADMIRE those who are with inner beauty. Getting Admired is better than getting attracted. External beauty never represents one's own character / behaviour. Thats my view.

  3. Here's my thought Gayathree

Firstly 'We can't judge people by their looks' is rather a thought in principle however when it comes to practice either not many are like that or people give a false image that they don't believe in the beauty of the looks.

Secondly there are two perceptions or line of thoughts here...

    1. Personal - One has a personal opinion or judgement on what is beauty or what is not! They don't change their minds with peer pressure of popular opinion however they tend to safeguard their views in secrecy due to the possible influence of the society against their views (Eg: Homosexuals / transgenders for instance)

    2. Influenced - Either one does not have a personal opinion and just goes by the book of how most perceive / expected to perceive or suppress their genuine feel and succumb to the popular opinions and make themselves be a part of the group as such!

    Cheers!

  4. hi gayathree
i agree with you that the first thing that attracts people is the outer looks. But once the their personality is exposed to be an ugly one, then how much ever they try to impress the other, once the image is tarnished they can never undo them. A mature person will never go by ones outer looks or their shallow words. According to me let us all just learn to ignore the ones whose opinion or judgements carry no value rather than trying to educate them. Your expression of thoughts is very amazing. Keep writing,,
